A long-running agent with a niche reputation
Basetao has been operating for many years, long before most of today's spreadsheet agents existed. It never became the loudest name in the community, and its Reddit presence is small. When it does come up, guides that summarise community opinion describe it in the same way: meticulous quality inspection, trusted for higher-value purchases. One guide calls it "QC gods, small community".
That reputation also extends beyond fashion. Basetao has long been a common choice among collectors of figures and other hobby items, where careful handling and long storage windows matter, because pre-orders can take months to arrive.
A small community has one practical downside: fewer recent haul posts and QC albums to check before you order. Rely more on Basetao's own photos of your items, which is exactly where it is strongest.
Basetao is a quiet veteran known for careful inspection rather than low prices.
What Basetao offers
| Term | What Basetao states or reviewers report | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Free storage | 120 days; disposal possible after that without further notice | Basetao homepage; independent review |

Long storage and generous photos are Basetao's strengths; the fee depends on which service you use.
"Free service fee": which service?
Basetao's homepage headline reads "FREE SERVICE FEE!!", and many buyers take that to mean the whole service is free. An independent reviewer who read every field of Basetao's public rate calculator found a more specific picture. Basetao runs two flows:
- Ship for me. You buy items yourself on a Chinese site and send them to Basetao's warehouse. Basetao inspects, photographs and ships them, and says this costs nothing extra.
- Buy for me. You send Basetao a link and it places the order. The calculator returned a 5% service fee on these orders, with no cap.
Most spreadsheet buyers use buy-for-me, because they don't have Chinese accounts or payment methods. For them, the relevant fee is the 5%. Ship-for-me is useful mainly if you can buy on Taobao directly and only need forwarding.
For most spreadsheet orders, expect Basetao's 5% buy-for-me fee, not the free headline.
When ship-for-me makes sense
Forwarding is worth considering if you can already buy on Chinese platforms yourself, for example through the Taobao app with a card it accepts, or if a seller you know ships only within China. You buy as normal, enter Basetao's warehouse address as the delivery address, and register the domestic tracking number with Basetao so it can match the parcel to your account. From there the process is the same as buy-for-me: photos, storage and international shipping. The saving is the 5% fee; the cost is doing the purchasing, seller communication and any returns yourself.
The 120-day window, and its hard edge
One hundred and twenty days of free storage is among the longest in our agent index. It suits buyers who collect slowly or wait for pre-orders. It comes with a firm condition: once the window ends, Basetao reserves the right to dispose of items without further notice. Long storage can make it easy to forget items in the warehouse, so treat the end date as a real deadline.
- Note the arrival date of the first item in each haul.
- Set a reminder a few weeks before day 120.
- Ship what's ready rather than waiting for one late item.
Use the 120 days, but never test the deadline.
Getting value from Basetao's QC
Basetao's reputation rests on inspection, so make full use of it. Because additional pictures are free, ask for the details that decide whether you keep an item: measurements, close-ups of stitching or hardware, the inside of bags and shoes. If the box matters, for collectibles or gifts, note that box-condition photos are reported as a paid extra and ask before relying on them. Before ordering, a QC finder shows photos other buyers received from the same listing; the QC guide explains how.
Ask for every angle you need; Basetao doesn't charge for extra pictures.
Who Basetao suits
| Good fit | Less ideal |
|---|---|
| Higher-value items where inspection matters | Budget hauls where 5% on every item adds up |
| Collectors waiting for pre-orders | Buyers who want a big community of recent haul posts |
| People who can buy on Taobao themselves (ship-for-me) | Anyone who forgets about stored items |
Basetao or Oopbuy?
For standard spreadsheet finds, Oopbuy publishes a 0% purchasing fee and 90 days of storage, while Basetao charges 5% on buy-for-me orders but offers 120 days and free extra photos. On a cheap haul, Oopbuy's fee line will usually win; on an expensive item you want inspected closely, Basetao's photos may be worth the fee. Compare checkout totals, including shipping and exchange rate, for your own items. Basetao links convert with the link converter, and the agent index lists the rest.
Cheap hauls favour 0% agents; careful, high-value purchases can justify Basetao's fee.
